Three ways the call reaches us
You decide whether a person gets first rings. The AI answers what you do not. Nothing here requires you to reprint the van unless you want the included Twilio number to be the public one.
Keep the number you already advertise
The number on the truck, Google listing, HomeStars profile, and business cards stays yours.
You set call-forward-on-no-answer (or always-forward after hours) on Virgin Plus, Bell, Rogers, Fido, Koodo, Telus, or Freedom. Unanswered rings land on the Twilio number that is included in the plan. The AI answers from there. You pick up first if you are free.
- Ring count is the carrier’s no-answer timer, not a dashboard slider.
- The kill switch can only refuse the forwarded leg. If the carrier never forwards, the AI never sees the call.
- Confirm forward-on-no-answer with the carrier. Forward-when-unreachable is not the same feature.
Publish the included Twilio number
New shops, a second tracking line, or anyone who does not want to touch carrier forwarding.
We provision a local Ontario number on Twilio as part of the plan. Put that number on the site and ads. Dashboard ring-count and the kill switch apply, because Twilio owns the inbound call.
- It is a new number. Existing print and listings have to change, or you run both for a while.
- Not the number already on the truck unless you reprint.
- We place a live test call on your exact setup during onboarding before it takes real customer calls.
Port the public number to Twilio
Owners who want one number, exact ring control, and no carrier add-on.
The advertised number moves onto Twilio. Same digits on the truck. Ring-count and kill switch are exact. Porting has a cutover window; we schedule it.
- Porting is optional. Most first shops forward instead.
- A port that fails mid-cutover is a carrier process, not a dashboard toggle.
- We place a live test call on your exact setup during onboarding before it takes real customer calls.
Ontario carriers
Forward-on-no-answer is a plan feature, not a law of phones. We live-test it on your line. Prices and app menus change; this table is the question list, not a quote.
| Carrier | Group | No-answer forward | What we check |
|---|
| Virgin Plus | Bell | Ask Virgin whether forward-on-no-answer is on the plan, not only forward-when-unreachable. My Appliance Pro moved here from Koodo in September 2026; do not reuse Koodo prices or Self Serve paths. | GSM codes *61*number# / *#61# / #61# are the usual starting point. Confirm in My Account or with support before go-live. |
| Bell | Bell | Postpaid mobility and many home-phone plans offer busy / no-answer / unreachable as separate forwards. Ask which one is enabled. | Same Bell group as Virgin Plus and Lucky Mobile. Packaging still differs by plan. |
| Lucky Mobile | Bell | Prepaid-leaning. Confirm no-answer forward exists on the specific plan before promising ring-through. | Do not assume Bell postpaid rules apply. |
| Rogers | Rogers | Call forwarding is a common add-on or included feature on postpaid. Confirm no-answer vs always-forward. | Fido and Chatr sit in the same group with different plan rules. |
| Fido | Rogers | Same GSM codes often work. Confirm in the Fido app whether no-answer forward is available. | Do not quote Rogers add-on prices on a Fido line. |
| Chatr | Rogers | Prepaid. Many prepaid plans only forward when the handset is off or out of range. | If CFNA is missing, publish the included Twilio number or always-forward after hours. |
| Telus | Telus | Postpaid typically offers call forwarding. Confirm no-answer as its own toggle. | Koodo and Public Mobile are the flanker brands; their menus are not the Telus app. |
| Koodo | Telus | Documented on Koodo help (checked 2026-08-10): call forwarding was a paid add-on, and prepaid only advertised forward-when-unreachable. Re-check before quoting; this is not Virgin. | Dial *61*number# is the GSM no-answer set. Live-test the timer. Do not reuse this as Virgin policy. |
| Public Mobile | Telus | Prepaid. Confirm no-answer forward exists at all before promising the owner can take first rings. | If it does not, use always-forward or the included Twilio number. |
| Freedom Mobile | Freedom | Call forwarding availability varies by plan. Confirm no-answer separately from unconditional forward. | Ontario coverage is city-first. Not a reason to refuse the shop; just test the forward. |
What works, and what does not
Ships when Cal.com or Calendly is connected
Books a real calendar slot
The agent offers times the calendar just returned and re-checks before writing. It does not invent a window. My Appliance Pro connects Cal.com from the dashboard.
By design
Does not cancel or move the old visit by itself
A reschedule books the new window and texts the shop to cancel the old one. A cancellation request is handed to a person. Identity on the phone is not strong enough for an irreversible delete.
Live
Texts the shop, not the truck
Urgent jobs, human-handoff, and booking notices go to the on-call / owner number you give us. The agent does not assign a technician inside Jobber. That stays your dispatch.
Live on the plan
SMS confirmation and photo intake
After the call the caller can text YES to confirm and send a photo. Inbound SMS has to hit the Twilio messaging webhook on the included number. Photos are the piece to re-test on a live thread.
Live in the script
English and French on the phone
If the caller speaks French, the receptionist stays in French. The website stays English. Other languages are trained on request.
Live adapter
Jobber job create
Connect Jobber from the dashboard. The call can create a client and a job. Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, AppFolio, and Buildium stay on request.
Config, shown as after-hours on the call
Office hours
Hours live in the shop config the agent already quotes. After-hours is that schedule, not a second personality. Changing hours is a dashboard / operator edit, not a code deploy.
Priced, building
Instant lead callback
Sold as an add-on / Managed include. Outbound voice is not the inbound receptionist. It ships when the callback worker is live, not before.
